Our Under 16s staged a really good recovery from their 5-15 loss to Cheshire back in October when the return took place on Sunday at Garforth. Full details will be posted in due course but they came away with a 10-all draw.
And here is Team Manager Andrea Bogan’s report:-This was the return match against Cheshire following the match earlier in the season where we had lost 15-5. Our team, which bounced back really well, was –
Charlotte Graham, Lucy Dodd, Natalie Ho, Rachel Bogan, Finlay Smith, Jai Nayyar, James Dodd, Seb Ritchie.
Following the closure of the M62 due to a crash, some of the Cheshire team were late in arriving, so the match started with the Boys Singles. All four matches were close with Jai and James both earning victories in straight ends. In the Girls Singles the honours went to our younger team members. Charlotte is still an under 14 and came through a particularly tight match, eventually winning 22-24, 24-22, 21-17. Lucy is even younger as an under 12 and was playing in this age group for the first time. Her match was another close three-ender which she took 14-21, 21-15, 21-15.
After the singles had completed, the match was all square at 4 all. Next up was the Boys Doubles with both of our pairings defeating Cheshire’s second pair. The stand-out match was Jai and Seb’s against Cheshire’s second pair: our boys took the first end to 15, lost the second to 16 and then won a close third end 21-17. So at 6-all, with three of the five rounds of matches played, it was still neck and neck.
The Girls’ Doubles got off to a great start with a tightly-fought 21-16, 26-24 win for Rachel and Lucy over Cheshire’s first pairing. This was followed by a three-end win for Charlotte and Natalie taking the decider to 16. Rachel and Lucy then had a comfortable win against Cheshire’s 2nd pair to give us the advantage going into the Mixed at 9-7. Whilst all of the final round matches were close, none went to 3 ends and we could not quite force the overall victory. However, we did secure the win required to ensure a 10-all draw, with Finlay and Lucy comfortably winning their match 21-17 and 21-9.
Very well done to the whole team, who had all contributed good wins. “Player of the Day” had to be Lucy who was undefeated.
