Under 15 Shires match v Lancashire 2

Our Under 15s played Lancashire 2 today at the TBC and scored an excellent 13-7 victory.  The team, managed by Ian Bambrick, was:
Girls: Anna Railton, Rachel Bogan, Sarah Bambrick, Rebecca Oakley
Boys: George Moran, Melvin Cherian, Andrew Liang, Joshua Xu

Many thanks to Ian for looking after the team: his report on the day follows:
The team got off to a good start in the mixed doubles with Anna & George winning to 19 & 15.  Rachel & Andrew came through a tough match after taking the first game to 15, losing the second to 18 and, in a tense third, eventually coming through 25-23.  Sarah and Melvin’s match followed the same pattern with them taking the first to 17, then losing the next to 20 before winning another tense third end 22-20. Rebecca and Joshua also had a close first game losing 21-23 and then going down in the second to 14.

So it was 3-1 to Northumberland after the round of mixed before Lancashire turned the match around by taking all four of the boys’ rubbers to lead the match 5-3.  The boys put up a good fight but all four matches were lost in two ends.

The see-saw nature of the match continued as the girls then pulled the match back, winning their four games, again all in two ends: Anna won 6 and 12; Rachel came through the closest of the singles winning 16 and 19; Sarah similarly came through 17 and 15; with Rebecca taking hers comfortably 6 and 9.

The boys then worked hard to share the level doubles with Andrew and Joshua winning their first match to 16 and 19, giving Joshua the win his effort throughout the day deserved.  George and Melvin lost to the Lancs first pair but recovered well to win their second match 16 and 15.

All four of the girls’ doubles were won in two ends, with Anna and Sarah winning both theirs comfortably.  Rachel and Rebecca worked hard to take their second match 19 and 17 after taking the first 14 and 18, to give Northumberland victory in the match 13-7.

Well done to the team – an excellent afternoon’s play!
