We had four age group junior tournaments last weekend, with a Silver at Under 16 and Bronze events at Under 18, Under 14 and Under 12. The tournaments went very well, with a good level of entry, and there were some excellent performances by a number of our local players.
There were no medalists at the Silver event but Matty Jerdan deserves a good mention for winning his group and then taking an end off Reuben Bodman, the eventual winner of the boys’ singles. In the Under 18 Bronze event, the ladies’ doubles was won by Anna Railton & Sarah Bambrick, with two good solid victories over the opposing pairs. In the singles, Jamie Tinnion won his group before going on to win his quarter final with an excellent 15-8, 15-11 win over 3/4 seed Zac Prentice. Jamie then lost a close three-ender in his semi, taking a bronze medal.
At the younger age groups, there were several medals in the Under 14 events. Pride of place should go to Charlotte Graham and Tim Bodani, who won the gold medals in the mixed doubles.
Tim also partnered Matthew Short to take the silvers in the boys doubles, with James Dodd & Jack Tilbury taking the bronzes. James had also won his singles group, taking the bronze medal after a close 18-21 loss to Harry Jones in the semi final.
The Under 12 tournament had a slightly disappointing entry but our three girls – Lucy Dodd, Katrina Ho and Naomi Silva – took the medals in the compensation singles. Lucy then went on the win the mixed doubles gold medals with her scratch partner, Hugh Simpson from Yorkshire.
