Excellent Shires Win for U16s v Cumbria

With apologies for the belated report ……………. our Under 16s followed up their win over Yorkshire2 with an even better result against Cumbria.  Team Manager Karen Davison’s report follows:Northumberland’s team:  Charlotte Graham, Ellen Davison, Lucy Dodd, Amy Ward, Dominic Wilson-Baker, Sonny Ho, Matthew Short, Mark Walker

The match started with mixed doubles pairings of Matthew/Ellen, Sonny/Charlotte, Mark/Lucy, Dominic/Amy.  Northumberland won 3 games very convincingly with our first seeds of Matty/Ellen only narrowly missing out on a win,  losing 23-21 in the third end.
Our boys singles saw Northumberland win 3 out of 4 games with Dominic putting in a good performance against Cumbria’s strong top boy, but being unable to secure the win.  Next up came the girls singles and we managed to win all four games, Lucy being pushed to a third end but coming out on top winning to 8.
The performances of our boys doubles partnerships of Dominic/Matthew and Sonny/Mark and girls doubles partnerships of Charlotte/Ellen and Lucy/Amy was a testament of how far these players have come being able to play with different partners yet still be able to perform well and secure games.  Seven of the eight level doubles were won in two ends.  Sonny/Mark lost their doubles to 15 in the 3rd end, but still played a tactical and well thought out game.
Final score was Northumberland 17-3: a great performances all round.
