Northumberland’s Under 17 team faced the first team from Yorkshire, habitually strong, at the Tyneside Badminton Centre recently and suffered a 6-14 defeat. That said, this was really quite an encouraging performance for the County’s coaches to build on, with several of the matches being lost after hard-fought, close encounters. (more…)

Last Saturday saw the inaugural matches in the new Senior County Championships format where counties play each other at centralised venues over three weekends throughout the season rather than travel home and away for individual fixtures. North’s first team travelled to Harrogate to play Yorkshire 4 and Ulster in their opening Division 2 North fixtures, playing over the best of 11 rubbers with 2 of each discipline except for men’s singles where a third is played. The first of our junior county championships for the new season, for Under 13s and Under 17s, were played recently at the Tyneside Badminton Centre. The number of entrants was a little disappointing but there were some new names playing and some of these really made their mark and showed themselves as having potential for the future. (more…)
