The first of our junior county championships for the new season, for Under 13s and Under 17s, were played recently at the Tyneside Badminton Centre. The number of entrants was a little disappointing but there were some new names playing and some of these really made their mark and showed themselves as having potential for the future. (more…)

A young and very inexperienced team travelled down to Sheffield on a foggy 1st November for the first round in the Under 14 event. With three of the boys completely new to competitive badminton outside the county area and bolstered by two of our friends from Durham, this was always likely to be a difficult day’s play. (more…)

The Under 17 team started their season with a difficult long trip down to Market Rasen in deepest Lincolnshire. Unfortunately it was a rather depleted team as lack of availability and shortage of girls meant that we only had Ellie Roberts and Sarah Wilson ready to travel. (more…)
An Under 16 team travelled down to Sheffield recently. They were young and inexperienced and knew it would be a difficult day: but manager Christine Railton kept them battling together as a team and they will all have learnt from the experience. There were new champions in all events in the recent annual “Restricted” tournament. With some 50 players competing, there was some excellent play, particularly in the group games and semi-finals. Afterwards, Chairman of Selectors Steve Abbott was enthused: “With new champions in every discipline, and with the county’s talented juniors holding their own amongst the seniors, it bodes well for the coming season and it was great to see Philip Pahatouridis take his first county senior title at only 17 years of age”.
