A Triumphant Day Out for the Under 17s

Northumberland’s U17 team has just been down to Sheffield for the second round of the North Midway.  As there was a late team withdrawal from this round, the format of the day was set to be a round robin of six counties.   Manager Lizzie Jerdan’s report follows and documents what turned into a superb achievement for the county’s team. Strong Performances at the U19 Nationals

Buoyed by their success in Durham the previous weekend, Emily Harrison and Ashraf Alam skipped a day’s school to compete in the U19 Nationals in Milton Keynes.
Emily was unlucky to draw the 1st seed in her first round singles match, but put in a very robust performance.
After a very good win against Jai Chandarana in his first round match, Ashraf safely negotiated easier opposition in the second round to progress to the last sixteen.  There he faced all six feet something of Leon Griffiths, and spent much of the first end figuring out how to adapt his game.  The second end was close all the way, but Leon just took it 21-19.

Anglo-Scottish Under 13s

This tournament, which is often the first team event for our young players, was held last weekend at TBC.  Northumberland’s team, which was relatively inexperienced in comparison to the strong counties of Lothian and Yorkshire, fought hard but found the going tough.  They were also carrying the disadvantage of having to concede matches as the team were short of girls and had to field overage players.
