The Durham v Northumberland Challenge 2019

First of all – credit where it is due and congratulations to Durham on their big win in today’s annual Challenge match by 43 games to 13.  This match is now played between teams of all abilities and ages, which can make it difficult to pick a suitable team.  And on this occasion, the selector got it wrong and Northumberland were rather under-powered with very few of our main team players involved – whereas Durham had most of their squad in the team.  However, we had been able to give valuable experience to several of our younger Futures squad players and, although they found the going tough, they will have gained from the opportunity to play outside their normal environment.

The team was Matthew Grant, Matthew Short, Amy Ward, Jack Tilbury, Hugh Twelves, Idan Cherlin, Eve Beechinor-Collins, Xuehan Zhang, Charley Robson, Matthew Glennie, James Jefferson, Oliver Heron, Katrina Ho, Jake Moir, Stephen Glennie and Reema Nair.

We will get the trophy back – it has only been lent to Durham for the next year!
