Junior County Restricted U15 & U19 Results

The second round of the junior county restricted championships, for under 19s and under 15s, took place at the end of November at the County’s base in Slatyford. Unfortunately, there were insufficient entries to justify the girls and mixed events for the under 19s but there was some good, competitive play for the boys singles and doubles.
Ashraf Alam and David Murray came through the group stage undefeated, with Alistair McLane and Alex Jay pushing them close in their respective matches. In the final, Ashraf and David gave the audience a really good match to watch, particularly after David had surprisingly taken the first end. Ashraf then fought back strongly, eventually taking the trophy with a 12-15, 15-7, 15-9 victory. Ash and David then paired up to win the doubles but not before Ali, partnering Jamie Tinnion, had pushed them very close, taking the runners-up medals.
The under 15 boys singles had needed a major revision following two withdrawals on the morning of the event but there was some good competition and several close matches. The group winners, advancing to the semi-finals, were Andrew Hogg, Andrew Liang, Melvin Cherian and George Moran. Andrew H scored a 15-6, 15-12 win over Andrew L, with George finding it tougher against Melvin before winning in three ends, 15-10, 12-15, 15-10. Andrew Hogg, who is qualified for Northumberland through his school in Berwick, is proving to be an excellent recruit for the county and he went on to win the final comfortably with a 15-9, 15-8 win over George.
The boys doubles was played in one group and was won by the Andrew Hogg and George pairing but only after they were taken to three ends by Arif Alam and Melvin, who took the medals as runners-up. There was a small entry for the girls events and this was further disrupted by an injury to Sarah Bambrick.  Anna Railton took the singles, with Rachel Bogan, still an under 13 but very promising, as runner-up. Earlier, Anna and Sarah had won the doubles defeating Rachel and Abby Grogan. The mixed doubles went to Anna, a triple winner, who was partnered by George: Sarah and Arif were the runners-up.
