Hannah Charlton and Amit Chaudhari had a great day over in Lancashire for the BE Silver Under 15 event on 18th February. But, although Amit did reach the singles semi-final, it was in the doubles that they both excelled. Playing with George Priestman of Lancashire in the boys level doubles, Amit reached the final to play the Lincolnshire pairing of Callum Parkin and David Tierney. A two-end victory by 15-12, 15-13 gave them the winners’ gold medals.
Hannah had to work much harder for her medal in the level doubles. Playing with Hannah Bailey of Derbyshire, it took two three-enders to win their box. This took them into the final against Evie Burbidge (Nottingham) and Emilie Gwilt (Shropshire): another very close match just went in favour of the two Hannahs by 12-15, 15-13, 15-13.
The mixed doubles saw the two Northumberland players teaming up and again they faced several tough matches. Their three group matches were all won, although two of them went to three ends. Their semi final gave them a 15-10, 14-16, 15-13 victory over the fourth seeds to set up a final against Adam Hill and Joanna Holt (Lancashire). Of course this was another epic but Hannah and Amit came through 13-15, 15-11, 15-12.
Very well done to both of them: they must have been shattered at the end of the day!
