Northumberland Badminton Association is proud to announce the first Tyne Team Tournament, which will be held at John Spence Community High School on Sunday 12th of February. The tournament will be a handicap tournament with club teams playing against each other for the Tyne Team Trophy. Based on a format similar to theĀ Sudirman Cup, club teams will play against each other in matches made up of 5 rubbers (1 each of mens & ladies singles and doubles, and 1 mixed doubles), initially in groups, and then in a final knockout stage. Each rubber will be handicapped in a similar way to the Elmfield Cup.
The tournament is aimed at senior club players and older juniors that play in a senior club.

Direction of lifting at Singles
If you are under pressure at singles at the net, one option of course is to lift the shuttle and you logically have 2 basic options: straight or cross-court.
If you lift straight, it can help you to get back into the rally because the base position you will need to adopt is towards the centre, but on the same side of the court as where you are coming from. (more…)
