Under 15 Anglo-Scottish

Over the weekend of 12th and 13th October, Northumberland’s junior badminton team took part in the annual Under 15 Anglo-Scottish tournament at the Tyneside Badminton Centre.   This usually brings together up to eight counties playing off for the trophy but this year there were only four other teams taking part from Lothian, Cumbria, Yorkshire and Lancashire. DEREK A DOUBLE CHAMPION!

Over 30 players took part in a special Over 50s North Tyneside Social Badminton Tournament in the sports hall at John Spence Community High School in North Shields, organised by North Tyneside Badminton Partnership. The ages of the players ranged from 50 to 75!! Volunteers from the Partnership (which organises badminton activities across North Tyneside for players of all ages and abilities), and from Bewicke Badminton Club, which plays at John Spence on Tuesday and Friday evenings, ensured that everything ran smoothly. The matches were played in a really friendly yet competitive spirit. One of the regular tournament competitors commented “As usual, I had a great time, with some really competitive games. It’s always so well organised and there was even a tub of chocolates that someone brought along. That’s my kind of tournament!!”

Two Golds for Ellen at Tees Valley

Thornaby has proved to be a good hunting ground for our PC players in recent years and so it was again at the Tees Valley Under 17 Bronze tournament.  The stand-out successes came from Ellen Davison who came home with two gold medals and a bronze.   She was backed up with golds for Charlotte Graham and Sonny Ho, silvers for Amy Ward and Charlotte, and bronzes for Ollie Edmondson, Jack Tilbury and Sonny. Local Successes in BE Under 19s and Under 15s

We recently held the first of our Northumberland BE junior circuit tournaments for the new season at the Tyneside Badminton Centre.  Events were held for Under 19s and Under 15s, although a very disappointing entry for the younger age group meant that there were no girls or mixed events. (more…)
