Our highly-ranked under 15, Ashraf Alam, has just performed strongly at the Lancashire Under 17 Silver tournament.  Winning all three group matches in two ends, he beat Gloucesteshire's Henry Jones…

The county’s Under 15 Shires League team made the journey down to Huddersfield on Sunday to play their rearranged match against the Yorkshire 1st team.  It was always likely to be a difficult match and so it proved, particularly as they were without no. 1 boy Ashraf Alam and then experienced an injury to Andrew Howard.  Andrew’s father Chris, aided by Christine Railton, travelled with the team which comprised the following players:

Despite howling gales, fallen trees, hail and sleet, the Under 17s made it over to Appleby for their Shires League match with Cumbria on Saturday. Both teams were slightly understrength and were also one girl short, so they were only able to play 15 of the 20 scheduled games. But the result was a resounding clean-sweep for Northumberland. The former Anglo-Scottish Team Tournament, played at Under 14 level, has just been reconstituted as part of the Anglo-Scottish League series and took place at the Tyneside Badminton Centre over the weekend of 3rd/4th January.  (more…)
