County Organisation

Affiliated to Badminton England Northumberland County Badminton Association promotes, facilitates and develops the playing of badminton by all ages, regardless of race, gender or ability, in all regions of Northumberland, Newcastle upon Tyne and North Tyneside.

Key Objectives:

    • To increase the number of people playing badminton in schools, sports centres and in clubs and in the number affiliated to the Association.

    • To provide opportunities for all players to reach their maximum capability and be able to compete at higher levels.

    • To provide a range of opportunities for competitive play for all ages and abilities.

    • To build a team of dedicated volunteers to manage and support the work of the Association to help achieve its objectives.

    • To ensure adequate funding is available and invested wisely to support the aims of the Association.

    • To agree, implement and regularly review and update a five year Strategic Plan to improve and develop all the activities of the Association against which the Assocation's business will be managed.

    Association Structure and Organisation

Overall management of the Association is invested in an Management Committee elected by, and accountable to Members of the Association as laid down in the Constitution of the Association.

To assist the carrying out of this responsibility the Management Committee appoints and empowers sub-committees to implement the strategies approved in the 5-year plan, and to recommend new actions to the Executive Committee.

Currently five sub-committees have been appointed:

    • Benfield Management Committee
    • Competitive Play
    • Development and Coaching
    • Finance
    • Schools' and Youth

Headquarters of the Association

The headquarters of the Association are situated at Centre for Sporting excellence based at Benfield School in the east end of Newcastle upon Tyne. Within the Centre the Association is responsible for operating a Specialist Badminton Centre which has 2 main purposes:

    • To provide foundation and participation programmes , and club development schemes, targeting schools and residents in the North East of the City.
    • To cater for the performance and development needs over the whole of Newcastle, Northumberland and North Tyneside.

On behalf of the Association Dennis Gray, as the Benfield Development Manager, manages the Specialist Badminton Centre on a part time basis, reporting to the Chairman of Northumberland Badminton Association .
