BADMINTON England County Selection Regulations

For players to be eligible to represent an affiliated county, they must meet at least one of the following criteria:

a) reside in the county
b) if in full time education, attend school/college in that county
c) be born in that county

Once a player has made his/her choice, unless circumstances change (i.e. move out of a county to new home and /or School), he/she will not be able to change counties during a season.

Northumberland Junior Selection Policy

Overall aim

The main aim of the selection committee is to select the strongest possible team to represent the county of Northumberland. This will largely be achieved by considering competition results: singles first, followed by doubles and mixed.

Other considerations

  • Behavior towards team members, coaches, parents and opponents
  • The likely effects on long-term player development
  • The training and competition load on the player
  • The nature and level of the team event being attended

Please note – participation in Performance Centre training is not necessary for Junior or Senior Selection. PC training is for club-based players to supplement their club play with additional training with players from other clubs. Players in these sessions need to be  committed to practice and have long-term development in mind. PC training is not for everyone and some may prefer to train in their own environments, which can be fine.

However, and partly because of this, county selection does require players putting themselves “in the shop window”. Participation in the the singles league, in the Junior Super Series and in County Restricted and BE Tournaments are necessary to help players be observed  in competitive environments.  They should also attend team squad practices when invited and whenever possible.
