These are Annual Awards for the Most Promising Under 12 Girl and Boy in the County.
In 2003, while he was Chair of North Tyneside Council, Councillor John Carter became an avid fan of badminton, attending a number of major events, including England international matches, which were staged in North Tyneside. He decided that he would like to set up an annual award for the most promising boy and girl in Northumberland, and so the annual Under 12 awards were established. Each year, in May/June, the two most promising Under 12 players used to receive their award from whoever was the current Chair of North Tyneside Council at a ceremony at the North Tyneside Council Offices, accompanied by a Civic Reception.
Unfortunately, from 2020 onwards due to financial constraints North Tyneside Council were no longer able to host an award ceremony. These Awards are now presented at the County Junior Presentation Evening.
